Monday morning Dwight Wooten scored big on a fat 45" trophy bass. The rest of the group caught fish in the 35" to 43" range. All fish this morning were caught on live Hickory Shad which have finally showed up in good numbers.

Tuesday Bill Wilk came down with his dad and two kids and hit the bass right away on the Watch Hill reefs. Several keepers and throwbacks were caught by everyone before the thunderstorms rolled in and sent us in early.

Wednesday Ray Getty and his buddy came out for a half day fluke trip. This year fluke has been very slow especially with the new regulations. Even so they managed a dozen throwbacks and a couple 23” and 24” keepers for the table.

Rich Bessette came out again this year after slamming bass in the 30 and 40 pound range the year before on live Hickory Shad. This year the shad did not cooperate and we were able to find just two bunker to put in the livewell. Even so they we able to get some fish on diamond jigs and score two 30+ pound bass on the two live baits.

Friday afternoon George Chase and friends had a banner night catching all the fish they could handle. They easily got their limit plus a dozen or so went back in to fight another day. All fish were caught on light tackle and surface plugs. Very exciting watching a 36” bass come clear out of the water after a surface lure.

Saturday morning Walter Modeen and crew fish the same area but the bass were more difficult after a night of feeding themselves to the gills. Even so they still managed enough blues and bass to have a lot of fun. Finished the trip on fluke but again somewhat slow with several small fish and one keeper.

July is typically our most productive month with the bunker and shad taking up residence in the Mystic River. Last year over 200 bass in the 20, 30, and 40 pound range came aboard the Kingfisher on Live Bait.
